Kadalakka pola/ Kadalaparippu pola/ Kadala pathil (Chana dal cake)

Kadalakka pola (Chana dal cake) 

This is another traditional Malabar recipe same as semolina cake (thari pola). This is preparing with chana dal and egg. while preparing this I made slight changes from traditional way.  In traditional cooking you can't find use of vanilla powder in kadalakka pola, also I separated egg yolk and white, this is optional you can beat egg without separating it. But I think whipped egg white gives it very soft texture.

Chana dal                                                      : 3 tbsp
Milk                                                              : ¼ cup
Egg                                                               : 5
Sugar                                                            : 5-6 tbsp  
Vanilla powder / cardamom powder            : 1 tsp
Cashew nuts and raisins                               : 1tbsp
Ghee                                                             : 1 tbsp

  1. Soak chana dal in water  for 2 hr and drain it
  2. Grind chana dal with milk to make smooth paste
  3. In a bowl add 2 egg and 3 egg yolk.  Beat with mixer then add sugar, vanilla powder  to it and beat until sugar dissolve
  4. In a separate bowl add 3 egg white and whip into make white, fluffy cream
  5. Add chana dal paste into egg yolk mix and carefully add whipped egg white. Mix slowly by folding
  6. Heat pressure cooker at low flame and add 1 tsp of ghee 
  7. Add chana dal egg mix into cooker and close the lid (don’t place weight on it)
  8. In a separate pan add ghee and fry cashew nuts and raisins 
  9. After 3 minute open the pressure cooker lid and add  cashew nuts and raisins on top of it. 
  10. Close the lid and cook at low flame until steam comes out though the nozzle or till an inserted  tooth pick comes out clean
