Kai pola (Plantain cake)- with stepwise photos

I replaced some old pictures and put new with stepwise photos.. I am sharing another Malabar (northern part of kerala) recipe Kai pola (Plantain cake). This is one of the main item in iftar parties, a sweet combination of plantain and egg. Easy and very tasty one..


3 Plantain (nenthra pazham) (ripe)                               
4 Eggs                                           
4-5 tbsp Sugar                                            
1 tsp Cardamom powder                       
Vegetable oil                             
Cashew nut                              
1 tsp Ghee                                         


  • Peel the plantain and cut into small squire pieces​
  • In a pan heat vegetable oil (pure ghee)and fry the banana till it get golden brown colour
  • Drain out the excess oil and let it cool
  • In same pan fry cashew nuts and raisins separately. Keep it aside
  • In a bowl add 4 eggs , sugar and cardamom powder and wisk well
  • Add fried plantain into this egg mixture. Mix well
  • Heat 1 tsp of ghee in pressure cooker at low flame (Or any deep bottom nonstick pan with lid)
  • Pour egg plantain mixture into it
  • Then add fried cashew nuts and raisins into it
  • Close the lid without pressure cooker weight (or close the lid of pan )
  • Cook in low flame until steam comes out through the nozzle (or cook for 15 -20 minute)
  • Insert a tooth pick at the center and ensure it comes out clean

  • Once it cooled take out from cooker or pan and serve
